Kid's Say The Funniest Things.......

The men in my life are always finding ways to keep life interesting...

So while driving home last week my husband looks over at me and suggests that I buy him an Elf costume for Christmas. After a brief pause and a questioning look, he quickly clarifies that he in fact means for me to purchase and wear a sexy elf costume (lingerie) for him. No sooner than I can let out a chuckle and tell him no chance, I hear the voice of our son coming from the back seat that says,

PAWS 4 THOR: One boy's journey to find a helping paw in the form of a life saving/changing Autism Service Dog.

I would like you all to meet Thor. I met Thor's mom through Facebook, during her fundraising efforts for her son. I have supported this cause myself, and am helping his mom to spread the word about her continuing efforts.

Thor is a little boy who at the age of 18 months began to show signs of regression in his development. Thor has since been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum DisorderSensory Processing Disorder and extreme Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

As a result of this, life is sometimes very difficult for Thor and his mom, who has been raising Thor as a single parent.  Thor has to be constantly watched as he will run away into sometimes dangerous situations.

Baby, It's cold outside!

Welcome to winter in snowy, cold Canada. We had a huge dump of snow over the past couple days, but there will be no picture as I am not venturing outside to get one right now and don't have a great shot available from inside the house. I am not planning to go out until have to for Dentist appointment this afternoon.

Searching for a perfect game - Zingo

I went into our games closet last night to find a game to play with the kids before bed. I was searching for something that both my kids could play which is not easy give the 6.5 year age difference. But it was just me and the kids and I had promised Nathan I would play a game with him so needed something that Karensa could play along too.

Wordless Wednesday: Eating real food again!

This is the first real meal I ate after having the flu for a few days. It was so good to eat a good meal again after having only crackers, jello and juice for a couple days.

Highlight of my week....

Okay, get ready for it...The most exciting part of my week...Getting new cloth wipes to use for K. Yes, I lead a pretty boring life, I'll admit it.

The wipes we have been using for K's diaper changes (yes, still have far to go on potty training) have been not the greatest, they were cheap ones from Walmart and it was time for replacing. They were on the smaller side and were okay when she was younger, but now that she was bigger and the stuff coming out was higher in volume it was time for something new.

Just in time, I took part in the Facebook party hosted by True Cuddles and Mother of a Deal. I ended up winning a Gift Certificate for Baby Bellhop, a cloth diapering and accessory company from Victoria, BC. I checked out their website, and soon decided on ordering some Thirsties Wipes and Grovia wipes.

I love that this company can be found right in the province that I live in.  Although there is a wonderful lady who runs a home based cloth diaper business in the city I live in too! The service from Colleen @Baby Bellhop was excellent. We placed our order on a Monday and it was shipped the same day arriving on Thursday of that week.  If you live in Canada and are in the market for cloth diaper's or accessories check out what they have to offer. I have heard really good things about the diaper trial she offers!

Thirsties Fab Wipes
GroVia Cloth Wipes

We have since tested out both these products, and while they are both very soft and work well, we have decided we prefer the Grovia. Only because the Thirsties seem to separate a bit and bunch when been used as the two sides are different fabric. Although I absolutely love the colors of the Thirsties, whereas the Grovia are all white.

We are very happy with our new wipes and I am planning to round up the others and toss them!

Frugal Friday Find

I am a bit late in posting this (and have been neglecting the blog the past few days) but I have either been dealing with sick kids or dealing with having the flu myself. And this was a particularly nasty one, and I guess we just didn't get the flu shots early enough to help avoid this one.

Anyway this Frugal Friday Find actually found me. A fellow colleague at work was cleaning out her closet and asked if I wanted anything that no longer fit. FREE CLOTHES-sign me up. This couldn't have come at a better time as since going gluten free I am no longer suffering from the stomach bloat I was experiencing and have lost a bit of weight, so needed smaller clothes. Turns out that was just what she had to offer.

So after trying everything on today I ended up with two pairs of jeans, one pair capris and one pair dress pants.  Along with 11 shirts - sweaters, tank tops, some sweaters, some dressy enough for work.

What I didn't need today I bagged up and dropped off at the local Womens shelter. There was about two black garbage bags full for them. So at the end of the day I am happy to have gotten some free clothes and also pass on my good fortune to those in need!

Annie's Macaroni & Cheese

I just had to post about this stuff since I love it so much. Okay, well not so much that I love it as in I love to eat it(altough it tastes great) but trying to avoid gluten this is not something I can eat too often any more.  But I love buying it for the rest of the family. Annies does make a gluten free Mac and Cheese too though. Check out the website at Annie's for more info on the products they carry:

Stop. Pause. Remember.

November 11th in Canada is Rememberance Day. A day for us all to stop, pause and remember those who fought for our freedoms. At the 11th hour fo the 11th day of the 11th month Canadians pause to remember those who fought in  wars and in many cases gave up their lives for us. This is done to commemmorate the official end of World War 1, after the armistice was signed on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour in 1918.

Hellmann's Turkey Challenge

As a member of One2One Network I was recently invited to partake in the Hellmann's Turkey Challenge. Hellmann's has partnered with Bobby Flay to help moms out with delicious main dish meals and ideas for leftovers by offering recipes that are great for the Holidays. I know for myself any help in the kitchen is greatly appreciated and I used to only buy chickens when it was just the three of us, but now like to buy a turkey so have the extra meat in the freezer all cooked or use it for freezer meals!

What can you do..head on over to  and you can vote for your favorite recipe and be entered to win a $250 gift card. The amount increases to $500 once 10, 000 people vote so tell your friends!

So, N is in grade 4 this year (and French Immersion to add to it) and I know it's been awhile since I myself was in grade four (22 years to be exact). I did not think though that I would have forgotten so much of the work that was done in school, but apparently it is so. As if I wasn't struggling enough with the fact that is in another language now I can't even remember the stuff in English.

The other thing that occurs to me with all this is that if I don't remember it and clearly don't use it all the time, it is a struggle to sit N down and get him to complete all this, especially since homework can be such a struggle with him...

(Not so) Wordless Wednesday - Turtle

This turtle came to us from my dad (THANKS DAD) years ago on a visit. It is meant to sit in a garden and make noise as one walks past. I love that he gave us something, but can't help but he gave this away a little too willingly. I was soon to learn why once I heard the things after activating the motion sensor. Needless to say that N was 4 and the time and LOVED IT. I soon got tired of listening to it, but we don't see my dad often so will be keeping it as it is one of the few things the kids have gotten in person. It now lives inside as it used to be outside the door and then someone took it. N was distraught when it went missing, but don't worry surprisingly it showed up a couple months later. N was so happy it was back (as was I, really) I have a theory that a kid in our complex took and once the parent A) found out they did so they were told to return it or B) same sort of idea as A except it was returned after a parent walking past it one too many times and finally asked the kid where it came from.

Meet Me On Monday

Here we go again this week if you want to join in click the button above for instructions...

Smurfs Dance Party Wii Game

I have not been on the Wii in what seems like forever but I keep seeing little reminders on my people's facebook posts or on blog entries that SCREAM at me to actually use the thing...I love my Wii but have just being too busy or too tired to use it lately. Then while browsing through list of blog entries, I saw a review and giveaway on one of my Favorite blogs, Smurfs Dance Party Wii Game over at My Organized Chaos. This game looks pretty neat but I wonder if it could motivate me to get up off my butt and actually use the thing. Because I say that I am busy and tired but just have not had the motivation and would rather park my butt on the couch and watch mindless TV.

Celebrating Three Years

So as I head to bed tonight I am thinking about how when I went to be three years ago not knowing that I would be woken up at 3:30am Nov 4th to my water breaking when I was pregnant with K. To think that once that happened I figured everything would be smooth sailing, after having gone into labor with N and having to have my water broken. I figured this time around things would be easy and was hoping for another nice home birth.

Wordless Wednesday: K getting impressions to make ear molds

These pictures are of course older, but this is the process to make the impressions that are used to make an ear mold to connect to K's hearing aid.

Molding Putty is mixed and injected into the ear. This impression is sent off, and takes about 1 week to produce a mold.
