Okay, I love my son dearly, but if I hear the word BEYBLADE once more before Thursday arrives I think I might scream, or just throw the darn things out. Except if I do throw them out I will have to listen to him whine even more.
Okay so I won't really do it, but here is what happened. We were trying to get him to complete his chores and of course he kept playing with his toys instead. (For the record he is 9.5, so I do kind of expect him to be able to help out around the house). Well, I found him locked in the bathroom for what had been about 10 minutes and could clearly hear the sound of these spin top toys on the floor. When I opened up the door sure enough, there he was pants pulled down, on the toilet having a battle with the things.
So I took them all, and the dome you use to play with them right then and there and said he could have them back in a month. It has been a very painful month but this last week has been the worst. He has the day marked on his calendar and asked earlier in the week if there was anything he could do to get them back early. My response was no, but if he wanted to keep asking I could make it longer.... Since then he has been helping out lots and I told him yesterday how much I appreciated it. His response was that he was only doing it hoping to get the toy back. Of course, but I just said that even if that was why I really, really appreciated his help and loved him.
Well, last night he cleverly suggested that if I were to give them back it would get him out of my way so that I could do what I needed to get done around the house. Clever little bugger, but this mom did not give in! So I said no and he said fine he was going to bed. Whatever, go ahead I said. He did come down a while later and had stopped sulking.
Now if I can just make it through to Thursday all will be grand. And next time I only take them away for a week.
P.S. If you are not sure what a Beyblade is here is a link.
