WW: Homemade Christmas Gift

Here is the blanket that I made for my daughter for Christmas. I was determined to get it done this year (only been working on it for 2 years) and manged to finish it up on Christmas Eve. This was all done with hand embroidery.

What homemade gifts did you give this year. Feel free to comment and post links to ideas, just nothing quite so ambitious as this. I would love for some things to make with the kids as gifts, either for Christmas or other Holidays as well.

Kraft Samplicious Review: Part 1

Here is what our family thought of some of the products received from Kraft. Nathan's feedback is a little short and Karensa just said YUM to everything she tried so I didn't include that!

Chips Ahoy! Middles Chocolate Chip 280g
Chips Ahoy! Middles Double Chocolate 280g
Mom/Dad- I personally found these to be a little dry but they were okay with milk. Not something we would purposefully reach for again as homemade cookies are so much better!
Kids- They are kids, of course they gobbled these up. No complaints.

You can print the picture, upload it to Facebook, Twitter, email it...there are lots of choices. You can also give the gift of Santa with Gift Cards ad eGift Certificates for family members with children, so even if you don't have kids this is a great gift idea.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Check out the photos I created below, which took about 10 minutes to create. Lots of great editing options too to move around the picture and zoom in to get exactly what you want...Now my tree just needs presents under it..think I will be up wrapping on Christmas Eve!!!

I need your help. The future of my blog is at stake!

The future of my blog is at stake..

Okay not really but this is a turning point and I need some help! So please comment away.....

So here's the deal, my husband informed me today that he is buying me a domain name for Christmas, hurray! I love you hun!

I'm very excited about this, but I'm a bit stuck on what name to choose and the choice of .com, .net, .ca, etc is mind boggling.

I did a quick search and mischieviousmonkeys DOT com is already spoken for. I could go for   mischieviousmonkeys.ca , but worry people may forget and default to the 'traditional' .com

Is it important to associate it with being a Canadian Blog? Does it really make a difference?

I also want the address to be easy to remember and not too long, here are a few ideas and I'd love to hear your thoughts and please if you have any suggestions for other names please share them.

mom2monkeys
momtwomonkeys
2mischievousmonkeys
mischievousmonkeys.ca   ~  .com is taken
twomischievousmonkeys.com -  My husband prefers this one, but is it too long?

I'm new to all this, so those of you who have already taken the leap and moved to a top domain, please share your experience and advice. Are their other things I should be considering?

Book Review: Save Me by Lisa Scottoline

Recently a friend posted on Facebook that she was reading "Save Me" by Lisa Scottoline and from her description of it, I just knew I had to read it.

Lisa Scottoline was an author I had not heard of and the title "Save Me" and the description by my friend had me intrigued. So I immediately went online and checked out my local library for the book and put a hold on it. Shortly after I was notified it was in.

WW: Flashback to Christmas 2008

This picture is a flashback to Christmas 2008, the year Karensa was born. I love how Nathan was showing her everything she got and telling her all about it. As for the little tree in the background, with a newborn around, our sole contribution as parents was to assemble it. Nathan decorated it by himself.

Cool Online sites for Christmas

The Holiday Season is creeping up on as and I am sure you are starting to get organized. I have come up with a list of some online sites to help out during this busy time. Some of these are tried and tested by us that we use every year and others are ones that look pretty cool.

Kid's Say The Funniest Things.......

The men in my life are always finding ways to keep life interesting...

So while driving home last week my husband looks over at me and suggests that I buy him an Elf costume for Christmas. After a brief pause and a questioning look, he quickly clarifies that he in fact means for me to purchase and wear a sexy elf costume (lingerie) for him. No sooner than I can let out a chuckle and tell him no chance, I hear the voice of our son coming from the back seat that says,

PAWS 4 THOR: One boy's journey to find a helping paw in the form of a life saving/changing Autism Service Dog.

I would like you all to meet Thor. I met Thor's mom through Facebook, during her fundraising efforts for her son. I have supported this cause myself, and am helping his mom to spread the word about her continuing efforts.

Thor is a little boy who at the age of 18 months began to show signs of regression in his development. Thor has since been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum DisorderSensory Processing Disorder and extreme Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

As a result of this, life is sometimes very difficult for Thor and his mom, who has been raising Thor as a single parent.  Thor has to be constantly watched as he will run away into sometimes dangerous situations.

Baby, It's cold outside!

Welcome to winter in snowy, cold Canada. We had a huge dump of snow over the past couple days, but there will be no picture as I am not venturing outside to get one right now and don't have a great shot available from inside the house. I am not planning to go out until have to for Dentist appointment this afternoon.

Searching for a perfect game - Zingo

I went into our games closet last night to find a game to play with the kids before bed. I was searching for something that both my kids could play which is not easy give the 6.5 year age difference. But it was just me and the kids and I had promised Nathan I would play a game with him so needed something that Karensa could play along too.

Wordless Wednesday: Eating real food again!

This is the first real meal I ate after having the flu for a few days. It was so good to eat a good meal again after having only crackers, jello and juice for a couple days.

Highlight of my week....

Okay, get ready for it...The most exciting part of my week...Getting new cloth wipes to use for K. Yes, I lead a pretty boring life, I'll admit it.

The wipes we have been using for K's diaper changes (yes, still have far to go on potty training) have been not the greatest, they were cheap ones from Walmart and it was time for replacing. They were on the smaller side and were okay when she was younger, but now that she was bigger and the stuff coming out was higher in volume it was time for something new.

Just in time, I took part in the Facebook party hosted by True Cuddles and Mother of a Deal. I ended up winning a Gift Certificate for Baby Bellhop, a cloth diapering and accessory company from Victoria, BC. I checked out their website, and soon decided on ordering some Thirsties Wipes and Grovia wipes.

I love that this company can be found right in the province that I live in.  Although there is a wonderful lady who runs a home based cloth diaper business in the city I live in too! The service from Colleen @Baby Bellhop was excellent. We placed our order on a Monday and it was shipped the same day arriving on Thursday of that week.  If you live in Canada and are in the market for cloth diaper's or accessories check out what they have to offer. I have heard really good things about the diaper trial she offers!

 http://www.babybellhop.com/

Thirsties Fab Wipes
GroVia Cloth Wipes

We have since tested out both these products, and while they are both very soft and work well, we have decided we prefer the Grovia. Only because the Thirsties seem to separate a bit and bunch when been used as the two sides are different fabric. Although I absolutely love the colors of the Thirsties, whereas the Grovia are all white.

We are very happy with our new wipes and I am planning to round up the others and toss them!

Frugal Friday Find

I am a bit late in posting this (and have been neglecting the blog the past few days) but I have either been dealing with sick kids or dealing with having the flu myself. And this was a particularly nasty one, and I guess we just didn't get the flu shots early enough to help avoid this one.

Anyway this Frugal Friday Find actually found me. A fellow colleague at work was cleaning out her closet and asked if I wanted anything that no longer fit. FREE CLOTHES-sign me up. This couldn't have come at a better time as since going gluten free I am no longer suffering from the stomach bloat I was experiencing and have lost a bit of weight, so needed smaller clothes. Turns out that was just what she had to offer.

So after trying everything on today I ended up with two pairs of jeans, one pair capris and one pair dress pants.  Along with 11 shirts - sweaters, tank tops, some sweaters, some dressy enough for work.

What I didn't need today I bagged up and dropped off at the local Womens shelter. There was about two black garbage bags full for them. So at the end of the day I am happy to have gotten some free clothes and also pass on my good fortune to those in need!

Annie's Macaroni & Cheese

I just had to post about this stuff since I love it so much. Okay, well not so much that I love it as in I love to eat it(altough it tastes great) but trying to avoid gluten this is not something I can eat too often any more.  But I love buying it for the rest of the family. Annies does make a gluten free Mac and Cheese too though. Check out the website at Annie's for more info on the products they carry:

Stop. Pause. Remember.

This is done to commemmorate the official end of World War 1, after the armistice was signed on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour in 1918.

As a member of One2One Network I was recently invited to partake in the Hellmann's Turkey Challenge. Hellmann's has partnered with Bobby Flay to help moms out with delicious main dish meals and ideas for leftovers by offering recipes that are great for the Holidays. I know for myself any help in the kitchen is greatly appreciated and I used to only buy chickens when it was just the three of us, but now like to buy a turkey so have the extra meat in the freezer all cooked or use it for freezer meals!

What can you do..head on over to  and you can vote for your favorite recipe and be entered to win a $250 gift card. The amount increases to $500 once 10, 000 people vote so tell your friends!

Homework

So, N is in grade 4 this year (and French Immersion to add to it) and I know it's been awhile since I myself was in grade four (22 years to be exact). I did not think though that I would have forgotten so much of the work that was done in school, but apparently it is so. As if I wasn't struggling enough with the fact that is in another language now I can't even remember the stuff in English.

The other thing that occurs to me with all this is that if I don't remember it and clearly don't use it all the time, it is a struggle to sit N down and get him to complete all this, especially since homework can be such a struggle with him...

(Not so) Wordless Wednesday - Turtle

This turtle came to us from my dad (THANKS DAD) years ago on a visit. It is meant to sit in a garden and make noise as one walks past. I love that he gave us something, but can't help but he gave this away a little too willingly. I was soon to learn why once I heard the things after activating the motion sensor. Needless to say that N was 4 and the time and LOVED IT. I soon got tired of listening to it, but we don't see my dad often so will be keeping it as it is one of the few things the kids have gotten in person. It now lives inside as it used to be outside the door and then someone took it. N was distraught when it went missing, but don't worry surprisingly it showed up a couple months later. N was so happy it was back (as was I, really) I have a theory that a kid in our complex took and once the parent A) found out they did so they were told to return it or B) same sort of idea as A except it was returned after a parent walking past it one too many times and finally asked the kid where it came from.

Here we go again this week if you want to join in click the button above for instructions...

Smurfs Dance Party Wii Game

I have not been on the Wii in what seems like forever but I keep seeing little reminders on my people's facebook posts or on blog entries that SCREAM at me to actually use the thing...I love my Wii but have just being too busy or too tired to use it lately. Then while browsing through list of blog entries, I saw a review and giveaway on one of my Favorite blogs, Smurfs Dance Party Wii Game over at My Organized Chaos. This game looks pretty neat but I wonder if it could motivate me to get up off my butt and actually use the thing. Because I say that I am busy and tired but just have not had the motivation and would rather park my butt on the couch and watch mindless TV.

Celebrating Three Years

So as I head to bed tonight I am thinking about how when I went to be three years ago not knowing that I would be woken up at 3:30am Nov 4th to my water breaking when I was pregnant with K. To think that once that happened I figured everything would be smooth sailing, after having gone into labor with N and having to have my water broken. I figured this time around things would be easy and was hoping for another nice home birth.

Wordless Wednesday: K getting impressions to make ear molds

These pictures are of course older, but this is the process to make the impressions that are used to make an ear mold to connect to K's hearing aid.

Molding Putty is mixed and injected into the ear. This impression is sent off, and takes about 1 week to produce a mold.

Don't make a bet with a 9 year old

It's been awhile since I did this but thinking that I couldn't loose out the other day I made a bet with N. See, we were making lunches and he wanted cheese in his sandwich...I was pretty sure we didn't have any and he kept asking..here is how it went:

Banana Bread

This recipe is one from Company's  Coming by Jean Pare. However, I do not use the cocoa or walnuts. Go ahead and use them if you prefer or leave both out and add some chocolate chips, I just like it the regular way! I use my Kitchenaid Mixer to mix this up. I love my Kitchenaid Mixer, and love that you can use it for so many things. Although this is another reminder that I need to order a replacement part to allow me to once again shred cheese with it.

Apple Crunch Muffins

Here is the recipe for the Apple Crunch Muffins.
This recipe is from the cookbook "30 Day Gourmet's Big Book of Freezer Cooking" by Nanci Slagle and Carol Santee. I love their cookbook and love using freezer cooking to make sure we have meals at the ready.

Bad Start to my day

After this morning I REALLY do not recommend starting one's day by accidentally smashing a plate on your toe. While reaching to grab a pot lid to put on rice was cooking for dinner, there was a dinner plate precariously perched underneath it which fell and smashed into my foot. Given that I was only Six am I resisted the urge to SCREAM and hoped around a bit before looking at the damage. The end of the plate smashed into the toe just behind the nail and scraped some skin off the toe next to it to. The middle toe got the worst of it and there is some bleeding under the skin and some definite bruising. Plus it HURTS. So I hobbled around, finished cooking rice, checked email and Face book and proceeded to head to work.

Silly Me

So I had mentioned before that my husband has had a horrible cough which has been keeping me up at night. Well, the other night was particularly bad and he had been trying to sleep downstairs but was feeling lonely so came upstairs. K was already sleeping in our bed with me as she goes to bed between 9-11 at night so I just take her with me. She does not sleep through the night usually without someone with her. Hopefully one day this will change....

Manic Monday

I don't know about you but Manic Monday is how I feel about the start of the week...Monday's are always rough for me and after not getting much sleep lastnight..due to my husband hacking and coughing at night it is not helping.

Too Long

I must apologize, it's been a little bit since signing in to post something. We have been dealing with the beginning of the flu season here and I have been fighting it on and off. My husband has had horrible cold and due to his asthma this just makes things worse and he is hacking and coughing all night. So between the three year old in our bed and him I am not getting much sleep either.....

Canning

I decided to take a leap this year and try something I have not done before. I decided to try my hand at canning some fruit. This was spurred by my desire to feed my kids healthy food and by desire to save money. My kids love peaches but during winter months I am shocked when go and buy the canned ones so this was my answer. I went and bought the complete canning kit and soon discovered that is wasn't too difficult and the results were good. I made about 12 jars of peaches. There would have been more but I got sick partway through the process and ended up having to throw out some rotten ones and just freeze a bunch for smoothies.

BEYBLADES

Okay, I love my son dearly, but if I hear the word BEYBLADE once more before Thursday arrives I think I might scream, or just throw the darn things out. Except if I do throw them out I will have to listen to him whine even more.

Manduka eKO Lite Yoga Mat

I have done some yoga in the past and keep meaning to get back into it. I have major posture issues and yoga would be good for helping me to work on this plus incorporating the exercises that my physiotherapist gave me. I also like doing the yoga exercises with the wii fit. My son has a book that is full of Yoga poses with pictures to follow along with for children which we enjoy doing together. I could also really use some relaxation and breathing exercises now as  it has been a particularly stressful time lately in my life.

What's for Dinner?

Okay so I still have this lingering cold, as does my husband. I was going to go out tonight to Sign Language class but after day at work didn't feel like it. Was planning something quick and easy for dinner anyway as nothing was taken out or pre-made. Kids had grilled cheese with fruit, hubby had scrambled egg sandwich and I had some stir fry with rice noodles that was already made.

Scrubbing Bubbles One Step Toilet Cleaner

As I have mentioned previously I am a BzzAgent. Recently I participated in the Scrubbing Bubbles One Step Toilet Cleaner Campaign.  I was not compensated financially in any way for this. However, I did receive samples and/or coupons in order to provide my review.  I am not expected to give a positive review and my opinions on this product are my own.

Being Sick

I seriously hate being sick....I have a horrible head cold which is making my head feel like it could explode and my throat is so sore. I was so desperate I tried a nasal rinse which helped a bit and didn't feel as yucky as I thought it would.  And of course I had Friday off work which is the day that we do speech therapy for my daughter and I did a bunch of errands that needed done.

Bananagrams

Okay so I am hoping to score some awesome stuff from Bzz Agent by reviewing products. This latest daily campaign looks neat and I am hoping that I get invited. It is for Bananagrams game. This game looks basically kinda like Scrabble but it has no board, and needs no pens, paper etc. I like this because it makes it more compact, portable, thus taking up less space.

Introduction

I am mom to two crazy little monkey's aged, two and nine. They sure keep me busy with all their funny antics. Aside from that I work full time outside of the home and we are busy with sports activities, etc. Lately I find that I have a keen interest in saving money on our grocery bill and trying to keep my shopping habit in check so we don't end up with so much stuff.
